What Majka calls, Legado, is a mash up of scientific research, conservation action, and establishment of the first technical climbing up a mountain in Africa. Kate Rutherford was her partner on this expedition. When asked what the biggest challenge was Majka said it was pushing forward through all of the "no's."
This is a conversation with my friend, Viviane about her first experience hating the mountain, then loving it, guiding people up it, educating herself, soloing devil’s kitchen headwall on Mount Hood in Oregon, falling 800 feet off of Mt. Stuart in Washington, coping with the trauma, and the importance of a good climbing partner - it’s like finding your perfect match and Tinder just isn’t enough.
You can find Viviane at Planet Granite in Portland, Oregon, somewhere on a mountain, or knitting at Red Rocks.
